Today, I was going to post about nourishing the dhatus (the seven tissues that make up the body) with Satvik foods during pregnancy. However, so many people have asked for the recipe to these DELICIOUS cookies that I had to change it up. We have had a lot of friends and family over during the past week and everyone has LOVED these cookies! I feel like I’ve made a new batch basically every night. In their defense, these are literally the best guilt-free, vegan, gluten-free cookies ever!

During pregnancy, it is important to nourish the mind and body with Satvik foods. Dates, almonds, coconut, and milk are some examples of Satvik foods. These provide immediate nourishment to the body and build up Ojas (vital energy) which is something that is very necessary during pregnancy.

These cookies are made from almond flour and sweetened with date sugar. They are high in protein and fiber and are a great pregnancy snack. They will keep you full while also providing the nutrition you need for your growing baby.

I was having a chocolate craving when I experimented with this recipe. I just want carbs and sweets all the time this pregnancy! Chocolate, however, aggravates Vata and while a woman is pregnant, Vata is the Dosha which is predominant and can easily become aggravated. Keeping it balanced during the pregnancy and postpartum is very important. Imbalances can lead to a difficult birth, difficulty lactating, and even postpartum depression.

For these cookies, I added in Vata-pacifying spices like ginger and cinnamon to combat the potentially aggravating effects of the chocolate. There isn’t much chocolate to begin with but of course, if you’re looking for a truly Vata-pacifying cookie and not having a chocolate craving like I was, you could always omit the chocolate chips altogether.

I really hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I did. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Namaste.

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 275F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add almond flour, baking soda, date sugar, sea salt, ginger powder, cinnamon powder, and turmeric powder. Stir to combine.
  3. Into the same bowl, add in melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, almond milk, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well.
  4. Fold in chocolate/carob chips.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and scoop the dough into 1 1/2 tbsp balls and drop onto the parchment paper.
  6. Gently flatten dough into a cookie shape using your hands. The cookies won't spread much during baking.
  7. Place baking sheet in oven and allow to bake for 25-27 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes prior to serving. Enjoy!
  9. *Note: These cookies can be made without chocolate chips as chocolate is aggravating to Vata-type individuals. In order to do this, omit the chocolate chips and add in an additional 1/3 cup of date sugar or replace chocolate chips with golden raisins. The raisin cookies taste great!!
